Gerald Singleton, Managing Partner at Singleton Schreiber in San Diego, was recently featured in the Los Angeles Times in their article, "Edison Says Encampment Found Near Area Where Eaton Fire Started; Critics Doubt It Sparked Fire". The article covers the ongoing investigation by both Southern California Edison (SCE) and the attorneys suing them in determining the cause of the destructive Eaton Fire, which has already burned down over 7,000 homes and killed 17 individuals.
According to the SCE, the cause of the fire was the result of an encampment near a transmission tower in Eaton Canyon. Attorneys (including Singleton Schreiber) argue that the fire originated from SCE's electrical equipment, that the utility company is liable for compensation for the victims, and that SCE must continue to preserve evidence of their equipment in the Eaton Fire as a result of a recent judge order against the utility company.
“It was either an electrically caused fire, or it was a cause we’ve never seen before,” Mr. Singleton said after his firm's investigators noted consistent signs that the tower had a history of electricity arcing.
