Michelle Meyers, Counsel with Singleton Schreiber, was featured in a recent KCRA-TV (Sacramento, CA) news segment discussing a class action lawsuit against Liberty Mutual. The lawsuit alleges that Liberty Mutual issued non-renewal notices to thousands of homeowners based on inaccurate aerial inspection reports, leaving many without adequate insurance coverage. This lawsuit, impacting an estimated 17,000 policyholders, underscores the challenges homeowners face when dropped by their insurers and forced to find alternative coverage.
In the segment, Michelle Meyers emphasized the significant financial shortfall homeowners face when forced to rely on alternative plans like the FAIR Plan, stating:
"There’s going to be a drastic shortfall of what is covered to rebuild, and in part because you had these non-renewals that we think were premised on inappropriate reasoning to begin with."
Meyers expressed hope that this lawsuit would bring greater transparency to insurance practices and raise awareness of the widespread and complex nature of the non-renewal issue.
