Knut Johnson, Senior Counsel at Singleton Schreiber in San Diego, was recently featured by the Monterey Herald in their article, "Monterey County Residents Sue Vistra, Others for Damages Due to Fire".
The article provides an overview of the recent lawsuit filed against Vistra Corp and other companies by Singleton Schreiber and famed environmentalist Erin Brockovich on behalf of victims of the 2025 Moss Landing Battery Fire. According to the plaintiffs in the environmental lawsuit filed in Alameda County, these companies were negligent in their use of thermally unstable lithium-ion batteries, using an outdated & failed water suppression system, and for storing excessive batteries in an enclosed space.
Additional highlights include discussing the health risks that residents now face (including shortness of breath, tasting metal, and difficulty in getting tested), an overview of Ms. Brockovich and Singleton Schreiber's recent town hall where they discussed how others can join the mass torts lawsuit, and recommendations by the attorneys to be proactive in seeking medical attention and testing.
"Be your own best advocate. Go to your doctor and tell them you’ve been exposed to the smoke and heavy metals, you want to be tested, and you want your insurance to pay for it," said Mr. Johnson. "The more people that advocate, the better.”
