KQED

Brett Schreiber, Partner at Singleton Schreiber, was featured in a KQED article that covers the recent civil rights lawsuit filed by Singleton Schreiber against Contra Costa County social workers, Antioch police, and other entities, alleging their negligence and history of failing to report & take the necessary steps to protect O-Y, an 18-month-old girl who died in 2022 from extensive physical abuse. The lawsuit seeks accountability against the defendants and monetary damages on behalf of O-Y's surviving siblings.

From Mr. Schreiber:

“What we see here is a group of organizations both at the government level at the county as well as at the city and numerous care providers whose primary purpose in this world is the protection of vulnerable children. Unfortunately, here we have a just systemic failure across the board at all levels that resulted in a preventable death of a young child.

Far too often, the kids who die within the system in situations like this are often forgotten. But this is an opportunity to shine a light on these issues and to hopefully not only hold these entities to account but also be a catalyst for change going forward."
