Paul Starita, Partner at Singleton Schreiber, was recently featured by KRON4 in their news segment, "Tenants in Deadly Fremont Apartment Fire File Lawsuit Against Landlord".
The segment covers Mr. Starita's civil lawsuit filed against Waterstone Apartments in Alameda County Superior Court on behalf of Haolin Zhang, a displaced tenant who was able to escape the blaze with his dog, on grounds that the Waterstone landlords were negligent, that they reasonably failed to maintain safe conditions of the property, that management did not take steps to reduce the risk, and that their actions led to the deaths of two women who fell from the apartment balcony attempting to escape the fire.
"Having escaped that type of event that leaves a permanent imprint, a permanent mark. It's just so sad, so preventable. . Someone failed to do their job. . . Real people, human beings, suffered as a result of these failures," said Mr. Starita.
KRON4 closes by summarizing the complaint's goal of seeking monetary compensation for Mr. Zhang exceeding $25,000 and a jury trial; that the cause of the fire was still under investigation; and that representatives of Waterstone Apartments did not leave a comment when reached out to.
The lawsuit is ZHANG vs MV-EPT APARTMENTS, LLC, A CALIFORNIA LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY, et al. (25CV118701)
