LAW FIRMS TO HOST TOWN HALL TO DISCUSS LEGAL ACTIONS ON ARSENIC-CONTAMINATED WATER
Upcoming town hall on November 21 to inform Sunland Park residents about legal actions related to CRRUA’s sale of arsenic-laced water and the health risks involved.
SUNLAND PARK, NEW MEXICO – Singleton Schreiber LLP, in collaboration with the Law Offices of Israel Chávez LLC and Markowski Ruvalcaba Law Firm LLC, will host a town hall meeting from 5:30 to 6:30PM MST on November 21, 2024, at the Dona Ana Community Center, located at 3365 McNutt Road, Sunland Park, New Mexico. This town hall aims to provide residents of Sunland Park, where the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) supplies water, with information regarding legal action against CRRUA’s wrongful sale of arsenic-contaminated water to local community members.
Arsenic, a highly toxic substance often found in groundwater, can lead to severe, lasting, and life-threatening health issues. Exposure to arsenic has been linked to symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, numbness, high blood pressure, muscle cramping, hair loss, and various skin disorders. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has long warned of arsenic’s dangers, referring to it as the “perfect poison” due to its odorless, nearly tasteless nature and its ability to cause prolonged, undetectable harm in the human body.
It is alleged that CRRUA knowingly sold water with arsenic levels exceeding legal limits, despite repeated warnings from regulatory authorities, without adequately informing the public of the health risks. CRRUA’s alleged actions represent a willful, reckless disregard for community safety.
The town hall will include a panel of attorneys that will discuss the water contamination crisis and the legal rights of affected residents. The attorneys will be available to answer questions in both English and Spanish, providing attendees with insights into potential legal actions and steps moving forward.
