Overview
Matthew Clendenin is a trial attorney and the Director of the Pre-Litigation Team in our Personal Injury and Wrongful Death practice group. His litigation skills have earned significant results for his clients and the recognition of his peers.
In 2022, Mr. Clendenin was recognized by the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego with the “Street Fighter” trial lawyer award. Beginning in 2018 and each year since, he has been selected by Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” Lawyer under 40, an award given to just 2.5% of attorneys. In 2015, Mr. Clendenin was selected “Best of the Bar” by the San Diego Business Journal.
Mr. Clendenin is a Master’s-level graduate of, as well as a former instructor at, the Keenan Trial Institute, which provides specialized education in preparing cases for trial, maximizing recovery, and defeating the insurance industry.
Mr. Clendenin began his career as a paralegal for several large law firms. He then attended the Santa Clara University School of Law, where he received many awards and accolades, including “Best Oral Advocate” in the Moot Court Competition. During law school, he was trained in oral argument by barristers at the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn of Court in London, England, and studied at Magdalen College, Oxford.
Dedicated to advancing the practice of law, Mr. Clendenin serves as president of the Irish American Bar Association’s board of directors and as a board member of Consumer Attorneys of San Diego.
He and his wife Marta Clendenin have been married for over 15 years, and have two daughters, Noemi and Lucie, and a pet boxer named Bruce. Outside of work, Mr. Clendenin’s passions include darts, cycling, board games, and good company.
